The timeline of Toontown Rewritten is a series of events that make up the overall story of the game, which began with a story arc revolving around the 26th. Since the game's Alpha launch, the story had been unveiled through many ARG puzzles, and certain in-game events and updates. Majority of events occurred in Toontown Online canonically and are reoccurring, albeit differently for some events, in Toontown Rewritten. Keep in mind that such events are separated by in-universe years rather than real world years.

Latest revision as of 08:25, 12 October 2023

The timeline of Toontown Rewritten is a series of events that make up the overall storyline of the game, which began with a story arc revolving around the 26th. Since the beginning of Toontown Rewritten's development, many important elements of the storyline are unveiled with ARGs, in-game events, in-game updates, or otherwise. Only events that clearly indicate storyline progression are listed by in-universe years rather than real world years.

Timeline

1998

• October 26, 1998[1] - Gyro Gearloose uses "The Rewritten Device" of which he invented to rewrite himself into Doctor Surlee, and travels from the Toontown Online timeline to this exact date by activating the time reversal with his unstable pocketwatch in order to start the Toontown Rewritten timeline (also known as "The Rewritten Experiment"). Toontown soon opens its gates for the first time, allowing a small number of Toons to enter.[notes 1]
• November 28, 1998[notes 2] - In his personal journal, Doctor Surlee documents the first 37 days since starting the Toontown Rewritten timeline, and mentions how he spoke with the Toon Council about ideas for neighborhoods and attempted to convince them to allow some form of teleport access for said neighborhoods. Eventually, Surlee creates Trolley-bots that would be present in various Trolley minigames so that Toons could be prepared for Doomsday.[notes 3]

2000

• April 26, 2000[notes 4] - Doctor Surlee writes an unpublished lab report explaining that things had been running smoothly for Loony Labs. Much to his dismay, Surlee walks to his desk and finds a resignation paper from Doctor Fissionton with a cat's print. However, Surlee only recalls Fissionton being a dog.

2002

• October 31, 2002[2] - Flippy allows Black Cats to arrive in Toontown for the first time in celebration of Halloween, which is also his first campaign for the Toon Council Presidential Elections.
• November 9, 2002[3] - Sir Max proposes an idea for a Trolley minigame called "Robot Thief" that is rejected by the Toon Council due to high budget costs. Before Sir Max could leave the meeting, Doctor Surlee walks in and convinces the Toon Council that Robot Thief is worth pursuing, and instructs Loony Labs to manufacture necessary components for the minigame.
• November 15, 2002[4] - Professor Prepostera introduces his research on The Grey.
• November 26, 2002[5] - Doctor Dimm visits Doctor Surlee's lab to look for a sprocket that he needed for Professor Prepostera. Dimm accidentally activates a scanner that scans, compresses, and sends Surlee's Silly Meter blueprint.
• December 24, 2002[6] - Slappy introduces himself and announces that he is a candidate in the Toon Council Presidential Elections. He begins his first campaign by allowing Polar Bears to arrive in Toontown for the first time.

2003

• January 26, 2003[7] - Flippy and Sir Max visit Doctor Surlee's lab to locate one of his blueprints on laff, believing that Slappy's higher laff is hurting his campaigns. Flippy creates a copy of the Laff Meter blueprint, but Surlee's security system locks Flippy and Sir Max inside the lab before they could leave.
• February 15, 2003[8] - Alec Tinn formally introduces himself and announces the Toon Council Presidential Elections with candidates Flippy and Slappy as chosen by Mayor Mickey to run the newly formed Toon Council while he is off to work on his movies.
• February 26, 2003[9] - Flippy visits Doctor Surlee's lab once more to question why he is helping Slappy with his election campaigns. Surlee reassures to Flippy that the Toon Council Presidential Elections is fair game and tells him to check the news whenever he can. Surlee's terminal, LL-TERMINAL43, reveals The Portability Design blueprint in the blog post.[notes 5]
• March 26, 2003[10] - Doctor Surlee calls Sir Max and asks to return the Trolley-bots upon learning that they were debugged, which caused various decrypted messages to be sent in minigames containing the Trolley-bots. Surlee's The Manufacturing Machine blueprint is sent over to Sir Max.[notes 6]
• April 17, 2003[11] - In preparation for the Toon Council Presidential Elections, Professor Flake announces an update to Loony Labs' Toon T.A.G.S..
• April 19, 2003[12] - The Toon Council Presidential Elections is held and Slappy is elected as president of the Toon Council. However, a Yesman arrives and saddens Slappy, followed by the Cogs' unexpected interruption where they initiate Doomsday few minutes later.
• April 20, 2003[13] - The next day after the Cogs' attack, Toon HQ sends a special broadcast to alert Toons that Toontown will be temporarily closed due to potential Cog threats. Toon HQ explains that the Toon Council will figure things out at the hands of Toon Council president Flippy, and also states that Scrooge McDuck had been reported missing.[notes 7]
• April 26, 2003[14] - "The Two"[notes 8] attempt to speak to Doctor Surlee and reveal a memo from The Chairman regarding Doomsday of which he declared a "successful sales pitch". In the memo, The Chairman congratulates the Cogs and states that "quality offices" would be awarded to Mover & Shakers when their corporations arrive.[notes 9]
• May 11, 2003[15] - Clerk Clara announces that Goofy's Gag Shop will soon open for Toons to purchase gags.
• May 12, 2003[16] - Toon HQ announces that they need help from Toons and introduces a system called ToonTasks.
• May 13, 2003[17] - Toon HQ warns Toons that a Cog Invasion of Mover & Shakers was underway.
• May 14, 2003[18] - Flippy announces the Toon Council's plans to reconstruct Toon Hall.[notes 10]
• May 15, 2003[19] - Professor Wiggle expresses his disgust at Cogs dropping their Cog Buildings onto Toon Buildings upon witnessing his building being taken over.
• May 16, 2003[20] - Tutorial Tom announces that he will open his Toontorial for Toons to learn about laff, gags, and Cogs.
• May 17, 2003[21] - Toontown reopens after previously undergoing a temporary closure due to Doomsday.[notes 11] The Cogs arrived to invade the streets of Toontown.
• May 21, 2003[22] - Sellbot Headquarters is discovered, and Lord Lowden Clear provides information about the headquarters and the Cog Disguise of which he pioneered.

Along with Mover & Shakers, Cold Callers would receive their own offices.
10. The Toontown Rewritten Team had plans to create an entirely brand new Toon Hall interior but ultimately scrapped the idea in favor of focusing on creating content players would want. A piece of concept art for the interior was shown in another blog post.
