Testing Key

Testing keys, also known as registration keys, are codes that were required to participate in the Alpha and Beta stages of Toontown Rewritten. They were presumably used due to limited server capacity, but were scrapped once the game was released to the public.

They could originally only be obtained by participating in official contests, but afterwards were obtainable with ToonTasks. The contests varied from drawing, writing or luck-based lottery raffles known as giveaways.

Alpha keys

Alpha keys were testing keys specifically for the Alpha stage of Toontown Rewritten's development. They were first available on October 3, 2013, and were discarded after March 21, 2014. The total number of Alpha testers reached 320 after the final giveaway. On December 4, 2013, there had been several alpha key giveaways which ran every day for ten days. This giveaway added approximately 200 players, and concluded on December 14, 2013.[1]

Beta keys

Beta keys were testing keys specifically for the Beta stage in Toontown Rewritten's development. As it was confirmed by Shockley, all Alpha testers automatically have access to Beta. Closed Beta was also confirmed by the developers[2] and was released in May 17, 2014. Starting on May 18, 2014, there had been beta key giveaways that lasted seven days and gave keys to around 700-1,000 players. The developers also gave extra beta keys to Beta testers to give to their friends by completing special ToonTasks.

  • There were 36^12 = 4,738,381,338,321,616,896 possible alpha key combinations.
  • Testing keys were completely removed after Toontown Rewritten opened to the public on September 19, 2014 for the first time.
