Fishing is an activity which can be used to earn jellybeans and add fish to a Toon's collection. As a Toon catches fish, they earn trophies, and additional Laff Point boosts. There are a total of seventy fish that can be caught.
In addition to fish, objects such as old boots and jellybean jars can also be caught. Catching an old boot is worthless, however, during Fish Bingo it will allow any space on the bingo board to be filled. Jellybean jars instantly reward toons with a certain number of jellybeans, depending on the fishing rod that they use..
Fish are indicated by circle-shaped shadows in the water. The shadow always appears the same size and shape, therefore it does not signal the fish that will be caught.
A pond is an area where a Toon is able to fish. They are located in each playground, street and estate, the only exception being Goofy Speedway. To begin fishing, you simply walk up to an unused dock. The cast button must be held down, pulled back and released to aim at a shadow; a successful cast will lead to a fish or object being caught. A maximum of twenty fish can be held in the bucket at once, the fish must then be sold to a fisherman before the Toon is able to fish again. This fisherman sells the fish that you catch in ponds to the Pet Shop.
Rods
A Toon will always start with the weakest tier rod, the Twig Rod. There are several upgrades that can be purchased from Clarabelle's Cattlelog; a new rod become available per four cattlelogs. A stronger rod is essential to catch new fish species which may not have been available by using the previous rod, however it also costs an additional jellybean to cast. The following rods are available, ordered from weakest to strongest:
There are currently 70 fish species found in Toontown Rewritten. The following charts have been devised to give players an idea of where they can find each fish. A higher rarity number refers to a more rare fish.
Fish Bingo is an event which occurs every Wednesday and every Silly Saturday where the event switches with Trolley Tracks and Grand Prix an hour at a time. The aim is to fill the board which appears in the fishing GUI. If a Toon catches a fish which appears on the board, the corresponding spot will flash red; the spot must be clicked before it becomes marked. If the objective of the board is achieved, the bingo button will begin to flash, and the first Toon to press the button is rewarded the jellybeans.
If an old boot is caught, any spot can be selected on the board. The white spots are required to complete the board, and the grey spots are not required. The lowest reward is 10 jellybeans, and the highest is 80 jellybeans.
Trophies
For every 10 new fish species a Toon catches, they earn a fishing trophy and a Laff boost. There are 7 trophies in total for 70 fish. This accumulates to a total of 7 Laff boosts from all 7.
All trophies go up in tier from bronze to silver to gold:
Guppy
Minnow
Fish
Flying Fish
Shark
Swordfish
Killer Whale
