Fishing is an activity used to gain laff and jellybeans. There are a total of 70 fish in Toontown Rewritten that can be caught and sold. Old boots and jellybean jars that contain 10-150 jellybeans can also be caught.
Fish are indicated by moving shadows. Different types of fish can be caught in different ponds around Toontown, with some fish being much rarer than others.
Each cast of the rod costs a minimum of 1 jellybean to a maximum of 5 jellybeans, depending on the fishing rod used. To fish, toons must use their mouse to drag a power meter in the direction they want to cast.
The fishing GUI includes a jellybean count, a timer of inactivity in which toons may be kicked out of fishing, bucket capacity, a fishing sling, and an exit button.
Ponds
Ponds are locations where Toons may fish. Ponds are located in all playgrounds except Chip 'n Dale's Acorn Acres and found on all streets as well as estates. 4 docks are present for Toons to fish at and fishermen are available at every pond, except at estates. To fish, Toons must walk on or closely to an unoccupied dock and they will automatically begin fishing. Once a bucket is filled up, Toons have finished fishing, or Toons have run out of Jellybeans, Toons can sell the fish they have caught to a fisherman in return for Jellybeans.
Rods
Toons start off with the weakest tier rod, the Twig rod. Each Rod has a weight capacity and cannot catch fish heavier than a certain amount, limiting fish rarity and worth. Toons can purchase upgrades to their rods to catch heavier and rarer fish. There are 5 rods that go from weakest tier to highest:
- Twig Rod (each cast costing 1 jellybean)
- Bamboo Rod (each cast costing 2 jellybeans)
- Hardwood Rod (each cast costing 3 jellybeans)
- Steel Rod (each cast costing 4 jellybeans)
- Gold Rod (each cast costing 5 jellybeans)
Fish Bingo
Fish Bingo is a special event that appears on Silly Saturdays where a bingo board is added to the Fishing GUI. It functions the same as regular bingo. A 5x5 board is generated with a specific template with all kinds of possible fish to be caught. If a toon catches that fish, they may fill in the corresponding square by clicking on it and continue fishing until the specific requirements of the board category is complete. Once it is complete, the Bingo icon flashes and the first toon to press it yells "BINGO!" and gains a set amount of jellybeans.
Old Boots act as wildcards, allowing toons to tick any square when one is caught. This is especially useful when toons can't catch a specific fish with their rod or location. Often jellybean awards are handed out.
Trophies
For every 10 new fish species a Toon catches, they earn a fishing trophy and a Laff boost. There are 7 trophies in total for 70 fish. This accumulates to a total of 7 laff boosts from all 7.
