Emergency Monitor Broadcast refers to the 88th blog post from the Toontown Rewritten website titled "[LAB1-T43] Emergency Monitor Broadcast" that was posted by LL-TERMINAL43 on January 26, 2014 as an ARG.[1] In past terms, this event occurred on January 26, 2003.

Story

While Doctor Surlee is absent, Flippy and Sir Max make a visit to his lab. Sir Max is worried that they should not be in the lab, but Flippy insists otherwise by saying that he is a good friend of Doctor Surlee. Flippy says that Surlee knows how laff works and Surlee wouldn't mind him learning how to increase his laff.

According to Flippy, the president of the Toon Council is supposed to be the silliest Toon around. Slappy, another candidate of the Toon Council Presidential Elections, had a total of 42 laff points, which is four more laff points than Flippy. Flippy believes that Slappy's wacky personality was hurting his campaign for the election.

In Filing Cabinet E, Flippy finds Doctor Surlee's blueprint of the laff meter. Flippy decides to scan the blueprint and figure out its Silly Cipher later.

Surlee?
That's strange, Professor Prepostera said he was in here.
Flippy, I'm not sure we should go in. How about we'll just stop by tomorrow? I need to go get the news ready, anyway.
Tomorrow, Slappy will be another Laff point higher than myself. I can't have that happen, Max. It's beginning to hurt my campaign. Now help me find where he keeps his notes about Laff in this pile of papers.
He only has 42 Laff points, Flip. That's five higher than you are. Really, it's not a big deal.
lockmgr:(info) Filing Cabinet D :: Manually Opened
Not a big deal? The President of the Toon Council is supposed to be the silliest toon around, and somehow someway he is sillier than I. Surlee knows how Laff works, and he is a good friend of mine. I'm sure he won't mind me learning on how to increase my Laff. Now, please help me find these notes.

I don't know about this, Flippy. This place gives me the creeps. Look at this eye thing. I swear to you that it is staring at me. :
Don't mind it, it's just some cameras he has been working on. Alec is using them in the election from what I've heard.
:lockmgr:(warning) Filing Cabinet C (locked) :: Attempted Open

Wohohoo! Blueprints! Max, help me look through them. One of them must have his notes on Laff.
What... What are all of these? I've never seen anything like this. Or this, either...
The mind of a scientist. You know as well as I do that Surlee is one of the most intelligent toons of Toontown. Leave them be - we need nothing but the Laff.
:lockmgr:(alert) Print 2 manually removed (Cabinet E)
Is this it?
Yes! Aha, Yes! This should do alright. This should do toontastically. It's got one of those silly ciphers on it, however... I can't make anything of it. Can you?
Of course I can! Let me take a look.
Uh huh. Yep. Yep, I'm seeing it. You see-
Nope, just messing with you. I can't read this at all.
Sometimes I don't know about you, Max... Look, here's a copier. I'll do a quick scan and figure it out later.
I don't know, Flip-
Boop. Too late now!

Changes

()YSHED had to be changed to YHSED. This turned TZDNS into TOONS.

()XHVF had to be changed to XHVK. This turned SORO into SORT.

These changes could possibly be the key to another puzzle later on.

Method of decryption

Blog post

The process of decrypting the blog post was not found through any means of induction by clues. Members of the Toontown community took the text and ran it through several ciphers before they were able to recognize the appropriate decryption method.

The Atbash Cipher, also known as Reverse 26[3], was the key cipher used to decode this text. Specifically, to decrypt the post, every "z" would change to "a", every "y" would change to "b", every "x" would change to "c", and so on.

Blueprint

This blueprint was encrypted with a Vigenère cipher[4], using the keyword "Lafter" (not case-sensitive).[5] The idea behind this cipher is complicated, but online tools were used to make the decryption simpler. Tools such as the Vigenère square[6] could be used for quick encryption and decryption.

Trivia

  • The :lockmgr:(alert) mentions the cabinets in the following order: DDACEE
  • It is currently unknown what "XTWYLJVRA-UPUAAKOSA-AJHFGTFST-GYTOHTJWB-LEXEOCJYZ-RZBWIFSYT" means (from ttr://assets/XTWYLJVRA-UPUAAKOSA-AJHFGTFST-GYTOHTJWB-LEXEOCJYZ-RZBWIFSYT.jpg). All six segments have nine letters.
  • It seems like Doctor Surlee was using the Camera Bots as security cameras before Alec Tinn used them in the Toon Council Presidential Elections.
  • The :lockmgr:(alert) calls the blueprint of the laff meter "print 2".
  • Sir Max did not want Flippy to scan the blueprint.
  • Flippy and Sir Max were locked in the lab for a few hours before Doctor Surlee arrived and let them out.
  • "docsrch" (doc search) might be a device that monitors a lab when the owner is not present. When the blueprint was taken and Surlee was not at his lab, docsrch initialized the emergency monitor broadcast and locked the door, hence why the blog post from Toontown Rewritten's website may be titled as such.
  • It looks like "reqparser" is short for "request parser", "cryptlkr" is short for "cryptic talker", "lockmgr" is short for "lock manager", and "EOF" means "end of file".
  • "xfer" is short for "transfer", therefore "xferbse" must be short for "transfer base".
  • Some of the encrypted text in the laff meter blueprint had to be changed for the decryption to work. It is unknown if this is a typo, or part of yet another puzzle.
    • YSHED had to be changed to YHSED. This turned TZDNS into TOONS.
    • XHVF had to be changed to XHVK. This turned SORO into SORT.
    • Both of these changes take place in the same section. When translated, this section reads "LAFF: PREPOSTEROUS PARTICLES FOUND IN T(OO)NS AND THROUGHOUT THE AIR, SOR(T) OF LITERAL "GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR."
